Jenny Hatch's Pregnancy and Birth Journal

Updated 1/7/03

Jenny at 24 weeks pregnant

Jenny Hatch is a Latter-Day Saints Colorado mother who gave birth to her fifth child on October 25, 2002. Follows is her journey through her pregnancy, and much wisdom about mothering and childbirth.

Final Entry for Birth Journal Jenny shares a couple of her favorite postpartum recipes, and the wisdom she has grown regarding the importance of postpartum nurturing for women- love and support can make a profound difference in how a woman treats her baby, and in her entire life cycle.

My Unassisted Birth Story Jenny shares her birth story- in all its faith, power and love. This includes how her water broke three days before her birth, and how happy her husband was after the birth- he literally jumped for joy!

The Freedom to Fail and Thoughts on Death... At over eight weeks postpartum, Jenny talks about the growth she had to undergo to stand tall against her family and our society regarding her homebirth, homeschool choices.

Jenny's Journal– three and a half weeks After her unassisted homebirth, Jenny shares insights into her birth- and makes an astounding parallel about Christ's birth: if he were intended to be born in a fancy palace with all the doctors and midwives available, if that were the truly best way for a child to be born- he would have been. But it was determined that he be born at home, surrounded by "inexperienced attendants" and humility... the most profound way to give birth. Includes a photo.

Announcing the Birth of Benjamin Johnson Hatch This is Jenny's birth announcement, and contains much detail about her baby's unassisted birth. It includes precious, beautiful photos of her lotus birth.

Entry 9 At 42 weeks, Jenny recalls her other births, and how wonderful her husband has been; especially with their VBAC birth. Includes a photo.

Entry 8 Jenny is resting and nesting at over forty weeks pregnant.

Entry 7 Jenny talks about her big, beautiful size- and the discrimination she has received from the ignnorant. Also: Jenny talks about her exercise and yoga. Includes photos.

Jenny's Journal, Journal Entry 6: My Blessing Way With commentary on the Primal Mama Lifestyle from my experience and perspective This is all about Jenny's blessingway ceremony, and all that led up to it in her marriage and life. Included: how everyone who was intended to be there spiritually was indeed there, and her beautiful plans for a postpartum doula. Includes many photos.

Jenny's Journal, Entry 5: "Labor" Day Jenny talks about the Blesingway she is planning (with some amazing friends dropping by!), and the testing her homeschooled kids legally had to receive (they did very well).

Entry 4- Give us this day our daily bread! In this amazing entry, Jenny talks about so much- how she is feeling, how she is preparing for her "fourth trimester"- the time of absolute privacy she desires after her birth, about her family's homeschooling, she even shares favorite family recipies, and talks about the beauty of deep pride in stay-at-home mothering. A must-read. Photos added 8/8/02

Entry 3 Jenny talks about her Mormon faith, and about the dear friend who has been such a loving influence in her life.

Entry 2 Jenny talks about the myth of prenatal care, and how her natural parenting choices brought much animosity from friends and family (yet gentleness from strangers).
